Coimbatore the Manchester of South India is located in the extreme west part of Tamil Nadu state on the banks of the river Noyyal.
It is a part of the Kongu Nadu region and is reputed for pleasant weather, educational institutes, hospitality, health care facilities, automobile parts manufacturers, engineering firms and textile industry.
The weather of Coimbatore is very healthy and the temperatures in both summer and winter alter from 14 to 37 degrees Celsius. The yearly rainfall is 610 millimeters and this includes the South-West monsoon from June to August and the North-East monsoon in October and November.
As per the census of 2001, the population of Coimbatore was 1.1 within city limits and 0.75 million under urban cover.
