Marudha Malai Temple
The Marudhamalai Temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga and is situated approximately 12 kilometers from the Coimbatore Railway Station. Dhandayuthapani is the presiding deity of this temple that is located on a hillock. ‘Thirukarthigai’ and ‘Thaipoosam’ are celebrated at this temple in January and February.
Perur Patteeswara Swamy Temple
About 7 kilometers towards the west of Coimbatore close to the river Noyyal rests the Perur Patteeswara Swamy temple which has been constructed by King Karikala Cholan.
The sanctum is the result of the combined effort of Vijayanagara, Hoysala and Chola rulers in their respective reigns. Lord Shiva is the presiding deity and the icon worshipped here is the ‘Swayambhu Lingam’ (symbol of Lord Shiva).
The highlight of this temple is the ‘Kanaka Saba’ or the golden hall where exists an icon of Nataraja that is gold plated and which showers blessings on two sages called Pattimuni and Gowmuni.
The pillars and gopurams of this hall are attractively carved sculptures and an illustration of Dravidian architecture. Devotees visit this temple to pay homage to the ancestors. They believe that in a span of 144 days the mortal remains of the dead transform to white stones.
