Vivekananda Memorial Rock
The Vivekananda Memorial Rock was constructed in 1970 about 500 meters away from the mainland in the memory of the great Swami Vivekananda. It is said that this is the same spot where Swami Vivekananda used to meditate. So, a meditation hall has been built where visitors can meditate and forget their worldly miseries. Before a temple was built on this rock, this place was called as ‘Sripada Parai’ which means that the rock was blessed as the feet of ‘Devi Kumari’ touched it.
Gandhi Mandapam
The Gandhi Mandapam is a place where the pot that contained the ashes of Mr.M.K.Gandhi the father of the nation was placed before a part of the ashes was immersed in the ocean. This outstanding temple is close to the Kumari Amman Temple. An interesting aspect regarding this temple is that on 2nd October every year the rays of the Sun fall precisely on the spot where the pot containing the ashes was kept.
Kanyakumari Temple
The Kanyakumari or the Kumari Amman Temple is situated on the shores and is dedicated to the incarnation of Goddess Parvati who was a virgin goddess and who did penance so that Lord Shiva could be her husband. The statue of the goddess is shining and the diamond-nose ring enhances the glow.
