Madurai is an awesome place to enjoy and relax! Foods in Madurai are cheap and exceptionally tasty! Do not forget to try really unique foods such as : idly in murugan idly kadai, Kari dosai at konar mess, nandu omlet at Amma mess and Jikarthanda. Transportation is sufficient but sometimes it is really frustrating to travel to remote locations. Meenakshi Amman temple and many other historical sightings are a must visit. Also regionally high quality silk item can be purchased at Madurai. Try the "Jasmine" flower, as the city is know for its special kind. Though Madurai is really safe, beware of some ... More cheats and frauds (in selling). DO NOT WANDER AT NIGHT UNLESS YOU ARE A LOCAL! AND WOMEN SHOULD NEVER WEAR ANY "Promiscuous" CLOTHING! Overall, Madurai is a city of tradition and culture and not a city for its glamorous clubs and bars! Do visit Madurai for its serenity and beauty! Madurai is definitely a MUST visit place! :D

I love Madurai. More safe, enjoyable, traditional and culture activities are still followed, even though the changes found in education and other activites. Madurai slang helping tendency of the people their adjustment with in and near, their smiling approach etc. But at present water problem and the condition of river vaigai makes me more worried.

Madurai is built around the Meenakshi Amman Temple, which acted as the geographic and ritual centre of the ancient city of Madurai. The city is divided into a number of concentric quadrangular streets around the temple... It is a religious place where all the states and countries are coming to see this culture.

Madurai is not like earlier days. Now very busy. I visited here last July, 2012. I couldn't see the earlier lovely City. Everywhere rubbish. Hard to travel due to heavy traffic. I enjoyed the city when I visited last 1979. But very sorry to say that I cant see the historical city.
