The city of Madurai is an extremely safe place to visit any time during the day, but can be equally unsafe during night. The tourists are advised not to wander alone or shop during night time, as thefts are quite common in different regions.

The women are advised not to wear provocative clothes during any time as it is considered unsafe.

There are not night clubs or discos, this is a city of tradition and culture. Do not travel alone at night unless you are a local. For women, never to wear any really exposing clothing!
