There are a number of impressive buildings in Thanjavur, which are considered as a masterpiece of architecture. The Great Temple of Thanjavur is amongst one of them.
It was built by the Cholas, who made Thanjavur their seat of Capital during the 9th to the 13th- Century. It is 400 feet wide and 800 feet long.
Two towers, known as Gopurams stand as its gateways. Another tall tower, known as Vimana can be found inside the compound.
