Arulmigu Avinashi Lingeswarar Thirukoil
The Arulmigu Avinashi Lingeswarar Thirukoil temple was constructed in the 15th century by ‘Sundara Pandiya.’ It is said that while two boys were bathing in a tank one was swallowed by a crocodile.
After 3 years, a thread ceremony was performed upon the boy who was alive and his family was happy but there was gloom in the family who has lost their child.
Sundaramoorthy Nayanar was passing through Avinashi by accident and he heard this story. He became emotional and composed and sang to Lord Shiva to return the child. Due to these prayers water emerged in the empty tank and the crocodile appeared with the boy alive.
Arulmigu Tirumuruganantha Swamy Thirukoil
The origin of Arulmigu Tirumuruganantha Swamy Thirukoil can be traced back to the 9th century.
It so happened that the gods in the celestial world were pestered by Soorapadma and his demon followers and hence these gods approached Lord Shiva to save their lives.
Lord Shiva sent a large army along with the brave Veerabhahu to demolish Soorapadma. This difficult task was attained by Lord Muruga who adored Lord Shiva. To pardon himself from the mortal sin of mass killing Lord Muruga installed a lingam (symbol of Shiva) in Thirumuruganpoondi and worshipped it.
