Tourist Guide Kailashahar

Kailashahar town is the nagar panchayat and also the headquarter of North Tripura district in the Indian state of Tripura. This town is located along the border with Bangladesh. The history of old Kailashahar is clearly associated with Unakoti which is a tourist place and known for its 7th -9th century AD stone and rock cut images.

As per some believers Shiva resides in Kailash, due to which the places cane to be known as Kailash Har and which got its Kailashahar. During the 7th century a Tripura King named Adi-Dharmapha ruled here. He performed a big yagna with much gaiety and the name Kailashahar found currency since that period. Kailashahar was the ancient capital of the Tripuri Kingdom.

As per the 2001 India census, Kailashahar had a population of 20,279. Almost 51 percent of males constitute the population and 49 percent of the females constitute the population. The town has an average of literacy rate of 82 percent which is higher than the national average of 59.5 percent. The male literacy is 84 percent and female literacy is 79 percent. Around 10 percent of the population is under the age of 6 years.
