Musamman Burj, also called as the Octagonal tower was constructed by Emperor Shah Jahan as the palace of his queen Mumtaz Mahal in Agra Fort from 1631-40.
In this place, Shah Jahan spent his last days along with his favorite daughter Jahanara Begum gazing at the Taj. The dome has gilded copper at the top while the flooring of the lower story is made of marble.
As this resembles the board for playing pachchisi (an Indian game), it was called as the Pachchisi court. The important characteristics of this tower are that there is a beautiful marble screen on the riverfront side, a projecting jharokha (overhanging balcony) on the eastern side, a horizontal chajja (projecting cover) constructed on beautiful brackets and vertical pillars.
Close to this tower there is a small pavilion called as Shah Burj which is the most elaborate building in the entire fort.
