This entire area has been planned by Major General Claude Martin, a Frenchman, for the country residence. Martin, who had come from Lyon, had the skill to create grandiose architecture from childhood.

The central portion of the Constantia building is the La Martiniere Boys college, which has a area of about 200 acres. Some part of this is now called as the Lucknow Golf Club.

This estate comprises of a village named Martin Purwa. As the name suggests, it is in the memory of Claude Martin. Constantia is based on a landscaped terrace and in the past overlooked a lake.

In the center of this building, there is a solid fluted column that has a Moorish Cupola which is called as the ‘Laat.’ This column is almost 40 meters in height. It is gauged that it may either be a lighthouse or used to mark the grave of Claude Martin’s horse.
