This town is located on a ridge at the southern edge of the Kumaon Hills of the Himalaya range.   The town is like a shape of a horse saddle hillock and is surrounded mostly by thick forests of fir and pine trees. There are also the Suyal, which is salmale and Koshi, which is Kaushiki, are two of the rivers flowing alongside the city. One can also see the snow capped Himalayas in the background.    

There are many temples in Almora like the Kasar Devi, Chitai, Binsar Mahadev, Cajinath, Garhnath, Jageshwar and Banari Devi. All of these are notable places to visit in Almora. The Rudreshwar Mahadev Temple near the Sanara Ganiya is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is one of the ancient temples in Uttarakhand. This temple is situated on the Ram Ganag River banks. There is also a sun temple, which is the second only in the world at Katarmal within a few distances from Almora. This temple is 10 kilometers from Bhikyasen and Masi.
