Rudrapur is a famous town in Uttarakhand. Rudrapur is well- known for the Atariya Goddess temple. The temple has an interesting legend behind its origin.
The tribal king Rudra, after which the town has received its name, was passing through this town.
The wheel of Rudra's chariot got jammed into the marshy lands of the town. He decided to build a well and a temple on this land. Thus he built the Atariya Temple.
This sacred temple is visited by hundreds of devotees every year. The temple hosts an annual festival of Navaratri. Navaratri means 9 nights and therefore the festival lasts for 9 nights and 10 days. Thousands of tourists and devotees visit this temple during this festival.
Tourists can also visit the Chaiti Devi Temple located at a stone throw distance from the Rudrapur. This temple exhibits a historical architectural style.
Giri Sarovar is the place for nature lovers. The lake site is a popular picnic spot.
