About 10 miles from the heart of the city is the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport and about 2 miles from the airport is the Dumdum metro station. Apart from this the two major railway stations are the Sealdah and the Howrah station.
Local trains are popular mode of transportation in the city. India’s first underground railway connects between southern and northern part of the city. The railway passes through the heart of the city.
Apart from the local trains, government and privately owned buses, there are trams, auto rickshaws, taxis and ferry boats. Rental cars are also abundantly available throughout the city and the rates vary depending on the size, model, and comfort level of the car. So it is suggestible to fix the fare before boarding.
