The Belur Math Shrine is spread over 40 acres of land in Howrah district on the western bank of the Hooghly and is an hour’s drive from Kolkata.
The visiting hours of Belur Math from April to September are 6 am to 11:30 am and 4 pm to 7pm while from October to March are 6:30 am to 11:30 am and 3:30 pm to 6 pm and these hours may be extended on special days.
Here one can find temples dedicated to Sri Ramakrishna, Swami Vivekananda and Sri Sarada Devi. Many monastic disciples of Sri Ramakrishna as well as Swami Vivekananda have resided in Belur Math.
The room in which Swamiji attained Mahasamadhi is maintained at this place. The two worldwide organizations called Ramakrishna Mission and Ramakrishna Math have their headquarters in the premises of this shrine.
There is also a museum that is comprised of articles pertaining to the history of Ramakrishna Mission and Math. In the huge campus adjacent to Belur Math there is a polytechnic, a degree college and many educational institutions of the Ramakrishna Mission.
