Calcutta, fondly called the “city of joy”, has been the birth place of many eminent personalities of the world, like Mother Teresa, Satyajit Ray, Rabindranath
Tagore, to name but a few. Calcutta boasts a rich cultural heritage and is well connected to all the parts of the country through highly developed rail, road and airways.
From contemporary works of art and science to historical monuments, Calcutta offers something for everyone. Calcutta is famous for its splendid Victoria Memorial, a beautiful monument built up of white marble. Other attractions include the Dakshineshwar Temple and the Belur Math.
Apart from these, other places of interest are the Alipore Zoo, the Botanical Gardens which houses a 250 year-old banyan tree, the National Library which is the largest library in India, Shantiniketan and the renowned Howrah Bridge.
If you want to experience the rich cultural heritage of the city, October is the right time for you. It is during this month that Durga Pujas, the biggest festival of Bengal, is celebrated here. People from across the globe come to be a part of this festival.
