The Victoria Memorial Hall is situated in Kolkata and is opposite to the planetarium on the southern side of Maidan. It is open from March to October, 10 am to 5 pm and from November to February, 10 am to 4 pm.
The sound and light show can be seen from 7:15 pm to 8 pm. The Memorial is closed on Monday. Various local buses and taxis are the best mode of conveyance for people from different points of the city.
The Metro rail can be used to reach the Maidan. From the Maidan, a local bus or taxi is used to reach the Memorial. The Memorial is made of White marble and is an excellent blend of Mughal and European architecture.
It is spread over an area of 26 hectares of land. Here, it is possible to view miniature paintings and images of Queen Victoria, King George V and Queen Mary. There are three thousand and five hundred articles pertaining to Queen Victoria.
The Memorial also houses the Queen’s dresses, several artillery weapons from the Battle of Plassey, the Whispering Gallery in the dome and the famous Rosewood piano.
