Calcutta: Parks and Gardens

The Maidan Park is a green expanse of about 400 hectares. From north to south, the length is 3 kilometers. Towards the west is the majestic Strand Road and towards the east is the Chowringhee Road.

Towards the south are the Victoria Memorial and Kolkata Race Course and towards the north is the impressive Raj Bhawan or the Governor’s House. The Maidan Park is also referred to as the lung of Kolkata.

Many people look towards it as a venue for rest and relaxation. The lush greenery of the place is a good attraction for morning walkers and joggers. Some of the people practice yoga here. There are also some laughing clubs.

Various snacks like Jhall Muri, Alu Dum or the Teli Bhaja are very famous here. The street musicians can be seen playing their traditional instruments. There are also Baul musicians and Bengali melodies are sung by these.
