Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park is situated in the Birch Hill neighborhood in Darjeeling in West Bengal and is named after the Late Governor of West Bengal namely Padmaja Naidu who is also the daughter of the legendary poet Sarojini Naidu.

The zoo has been attracting 3,00,000 tourists each year and covers a total area of 44 hectares. The zoo was founded in 1958 under the Department of Education with the aim to preserve and study the Himalayan flora and fauna.

It now encompasses a variety of endangered birds and animals such as red pandas, Siberian tigers, snow leopards, gorals, Tibetan wolf and more.

The zoo is well known for its captive breeding programs undertaken to preserve certain endangered species and is world famous for its efforts in increasing the population of some of the endangered species.

The Himalayan Black Bear is one of the oldest animals in the zoo.
