June to September is the monsoon season in India. It can be dangerous to travel in Darjeeling during this period, as it is a hilly region. Problems like land slides are common in this region.

Sometimes, the land slides sweep away the road, cutting the town from rest of the nation. This is a small town and the roads get deserted after 9 p.m. at night. Stepping out at this time can be risky, especially for ladies.

As in most of the towns across the world, it is better to drink packaged water. Consumption of food sold on road must be avoided. Always prefer going to restaurants where the number of visitors are more.

This is because; more the people in the restaurant, fresher will be the food. Indian food can be a little spicy for western tourists. They can however try less spicy delicacies like Chinese or Continental.

Shopkeepers selling local handicraft objects always start at higher prices. The prices charged can be more than double. So, keep the price margin in mind while bargaining.
