Ranaghat is a town in the district of Nadia in West Bengal in India. It is situated around 74 kilometers to the north of Calcutta. This town is also one of the most important railway junctions in the Sealdah-Murshidabad railway section. Ranaghat is 74 kilometers north of Calcutta and 26 kilometers to the south of Krishnanagar, Nadia District headquarters. There is also a border, the Bangladesh border which is close to this town. Ranaghat is located at 23.18 North latitude and 88.58 East longitudes. Ranaghat has an average elevation of 7 meters which is 22 feet. This town is located on the banks of River Churni.
As per the 2001 India census, this town had a population of 68,754. Males constitute up to 51 percent of the population and females constitute 49 percent of the population. The average literacy rate of 84 percent is higher than the national average of 59.5 percent. The male literacy is 87 percent and female literacy is 80 percent. Around 8 percent of the population is under 6 years of age.
