Corruption is high in Bali, as the cops are underpaid, and the police authorities are just waiting for you to break a rule to charge exorbitant fines. So the best way out is to stay away from getting in their wrong books at all and if you do be polite.
Remember that while visiting temples one is required to be well covered and even shorts are not allowed, so either carry a sarong with you or buy one if you do not want to miss out on some of these fine Balinese attractions.
While exchanging currency be careful to do so only from authentic exchange counters and count the money yourself as they have a habit of underpaying.
While shopping remember to bargain else one would end up paying twice or more of the amount of the article bought.
Also if the vendors seem to pester you to buy learn to say ‘sing la pis’, which means ‘I don’t have money’ then you would be left alone.
