Tourist Guide Jakarta
Jakarta is warm and often wet city. The dry season is from May to September,
and while buckets of torrential rain are still possible, it's more likely that
you'll stay pretty dry.
Independence Day on 17 August is celebrated with great gusto in Jakarta. The
Jakarta Fair occurs around 22 June and lasts three weeks. Other celebrations,
such as the Jalan Jaksa Street Fair in August and the Jakarta International
Cultural Performance in May are colourful, vibrant events.
Jakarta has changed into an Asian boom town in not much more than a decade.
Reduced by the 1998 riots to a burnt-out shell, it remains very much at the
centre of political events re-shaping Indonesia.
At first glance, this hot, smoggy city feels like nothing more than a waiting
lounge for the millions queuing up to make their fortune, is a city of surprises.
In other words it is a Pandora's box, filled with all the good and bad of Indonesian
life!
