An island of Indonesia and site of the capital city Jakarta, the city of Java is considered to be the world’s most populated island with a population of around 130 million. It is the 13th largest island in the world covering an area of 48,919 km2. It is also the most densely populated region.
The city has a dominant role in the political and economic life of the country. Diversity in religious beliefs and cultures is found here. Java has a chain of volcanic mountains forming an east-west spine down the island. East Java has wonderful, unforgettable scenery and places to visit and enjoy.
The island’s structure and position assures high but uniform temperatures. Its location between Asia and Australia affects the rainfall pattern. There is heavy precipitation throughout the year, the wettest months being December to March. Only the Maoke Mountains of Papua are high enough to receive snow.
