This bridge, which has spread above ‘Musi River’ has become the major characteristic with regards to Palembang City. Its construction took place between 1962 and 1965. ‘Ampera Bridge’ contains a tower as high as 78 meters. This bridge’s special feature, however is that there is a built-in open-and-close mechanism. However, the sad part is that the mechanism isn’t working any more. Bridge needs to be ‘lifted-up’ of middle shares every time when any ‘king-sized ship’ arrives for having crossed the bridge. Unfortunately, this exercise needs to be performed while going downstream as well as upstream.
As such, Ampera Bridge has been the center of attraction for tourists since its construction. The functionality has gone down; but the beauty has still remained the same. At night, the bridge can’t stop catching everyone’s eye.
