Tourist Guide Surabaya
In the last ten years Surabaya has boomed to become one of the most important
industrial and commercial centers, starting to get in challenge with Jakarta’s
fame as the business capital of Indonesia.
The explosive step that signed Surabaya’s development started in 1910,
when the construction of a new harbor at Tanjung Perak began. Older ports without
deepwater became irrelevant for the larger steam ships and so Surabaya went
through a rapid expansion of trade and commerce. The population increased during
30 years from 100.000 to 400.000 inhabitants.
