Persepolis Palace
The place ‘Persepolis’ was Persian Empire’s ceremonial capital at the time of ‘Achaemenid dynasty’. Darius the Great went on to build a palace over here. It got named ‘Apadana’. ‘King of Kings’ made use of it for royal guests. Work started in the year 515 BC. It was completed after 30 years by none other than his son, i.e. Xerxes I. It contained a ‘grand hall’ in shape of square. This hall had 72 columns, 13 out of which stood on an enormous platform. They still stand over here. These columns’ tops constituted of animal sculptures like eagles, lions, and 2-headed bulls. Cedar and oak beams were used for joining these columns. They had been brought from Lebanon. Rectangular verandah was present at eastern, northern, and western sides of palace.
This palace has been World Heritage-listed. It’s worth visiting at least once in the lifetime.
