In the north-east corner of Iran there is a mountainous region called as Khorazan where the holiest city of this country called Mashad is located.
The term ‘Mashad’ means “Place of Martyrdom.”
The climate of this place is marked by beautiful autumns, generally mild summers, pleasant springs and extremely cold winters.
As per the 2006 census, the population of this city was 2.427 million.
This city is a center for science, arts, secular and religious learning. The native rug of this region is called as Kashmar rug which is a type of Persian rug.
There are important institutions like the Central Library of Astan-e Quds Razavi, the Razavi University of Islamic Sciences, the Madrassa of Ayatollah Al-Khoei and the huge Ferdowsi University of Mashhad.
