People in Tehran are very kind and open especially towards foreigners, and the most part of the young generation has a good knowledge of English.
The nicest characteristic of the city is the wonderful Alborz mountain range on the northern part which is ... More usually covered with snow from November to May.
Unfortunately the worst feature of Tehran is air pollution, due to bad traffic jam and old motor vehicles. It becomes a very serious problem during the hot months as July and August and during the very cold ones as January and February.
In Tehran you have four distinct seasons with a lot of rain during spring and autumn, a warm summer and good snow in winter.
The architecture of the city compared to other Iranian cities is not very attractive. Tehran has over grown in the past because of the mass immigration from rural areas. Great part of the city has a rather modern and industrialised look and feel. There are only a few monuments as Grand Bazaar and Golestan Palace which remind of the classical architecture of the city. In the northern part of the town you find the residential district with bigger houses, villas and gardens.
Driving in Tehran is only recommended to people who are used to drive in an extremely hectic way.
A big advantage of Tehran is that you can escape to the countryside easily. You reach towns with clear and fresh air located in the mountains as Lavasan and Fasham with less than an hour drive. In winter at only two hours from the capital you can enjoy skiing in Shemshak, Dizin and Darbandsar, there are nice pistes, hotels and other accommodations to enjoy.
Its very young population is around 14 million people.
The official and most popular language in Tehran is Persian (in Persian it is called Farsi or Parsi). A lot of people, mostly the younger ones speak and write English fluently.
Iran has its own calendar system, the Iranian/Persian calendar system called “Jalali”. This calendar is used in daily life and commerce, although the Iranians are familiar with the western calendar they use it only if they are doing business with the west.
