The locals are usually direct in speech. This should not be perceived as rudeness. The standard courtesies should be followed when visiting someone. The locals love to talk about religion, politics and homeland. So visitors are free to ask questions and the locals just love to converse.
Casual dress is acceptable; however modest attire is expected while visiting holy places of all religions.
Smoking on Saturday (Sabbath) is considered to be a violation of Sabbath. There are certain reminders displayed which should be respected and regarded by visitors.
The city is known for its Mediterranean climate. The winters in Jerusalem can be cool with occasional rains. Hence visitors are advised to carry a few light clothes for warmer months.
Tourists are strongly recommended to preserve a high level of caution when travelling in the city, and to get some local advice. There are regular protests in the Old City, which may sometimes turn violent. Those visiting the old city should follow safety measures to guard themselves and their belongings.
