Takayama is home to some of Japan’s most beautiful tourist attractions. Mount Norikura, a dormant volcano, is one of the most popular attractions. Sakurayama Nikko Kan and Takayama-shi Kyodo-kan are popular historical museums.

The Shin-Hotaka ropeway and the Okhuhida Spa resort offer breathtaking views of the Northern Alps. The Hida Minzoku Mura Folk village is another must-visit. The Hida-Kokubunji Temple is the oldest structure in Takayam with the Ankokuji Temple and Storehouse being a heritage site that has been recognized as a national treasure.

The Takayama Festival is one of the most beautiful Japanese festivals. The city is known all over the globe for its local foods which include sansai, wasakana, beef, soba, ramen and sake.

The city also hosts a walking tour, known as the Higashiyama Walking Course, which covers several important shrines and temples which lead to the Shiroyama Park.
