Atomic Bomb Dome
Rating:
|
The Atomic Bomb Dome, originally named as the Industrial promotion Hall, is a stark reminder of the devastating atomic bomb which destroyed most parts of Hiroshima at the end of World War II.
This popular landmark situated near the Aioi River has become an historic landmark as this was where the bomb exploded.
In the subsequent chaos and confusion people jumped into the Aioi River to ease the pain caused by the burns and tragically died here.
Some of the nearby structures were restored after the explosion but, the Atomic Bomb dome was too severely damaged to be restored.
One only has to walk around this memorial to get an idea of the amount of damage done.
At night, a ghostly green glow lights up this structure which is now one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
