Kanazawa, known for its architectural excellence, is one of the popular tourist destinations in Japan. Kenrokuen Garden, home to a wide variety of trees, flowers, ponds and waterfalls, is the most famous part of Kanazawa. Kanazawa Castle and the Oyama-jinja shrine, known for its magnificent three-storey Shimnon gate, are other popular historical sites. Higashi Geisha district in Kanazawa is home to a large number of Edo period Geisha houses.
While dining in Kanazawa, be sure not to miss the jumbo shrimp, a traditional seafood speciality. Sushi and sashimi are equally popular.
Kanazawa hosts Hyakumangoku Matsuri and Asano-gawa Enyukai, which are two of the most important festivals in the city. The Kanazawa Night, a cultural event displaying the unique cultural elements of Kanazawa, is a much awaited festival.
