The Jerash Ruins is one of the finest preserved roman outposts in the city of Amman. Considering that Amman has not so much to offer to visitors, in terms of tourist attractions and spots, Jerash is a must-see when in Amman.

Located in a green valley, in the scenic land of Gilead, the remains of the prehistoric city have long fascinated students, tourists and scholars from all over the world.

Travellers can visit plazas, original temples, baths, theatres and colonnaded streets; all enclosed within the remains of the city walls. The testimonies of settlements dating from the Roman, Iron Age, Umayade, Bronze Age, Byzantine, the Hellenistic, and Abbasid periods have also been found within the enclosed walls.

There are different structures to be explored such as the pink limestone fountain and the attractive public water fountain decorated with mosaics.

The Temple of Artemis is another important structure in Jerash. The building is known for its Corinthian columns, impressive staircase and temple.

The only mean available to get to Jerash from Amman is by private transports, as public bus are almost absent.
