Unlike most of the oil rich Middle East, Jordan has a limited amount of resources. The country depends heavily on foreign grants. The main industries include textiles, phosphate mining, fertilizers, potash, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and tourism.

The average daily cost of living for a tourist is about 35 JD–45 JD; an average meal costs anywhere between 3 JD–8 JD. Buses and taxis are the best way to get around in Jordan.
