At the extreme western-most point of Beirut you find Pigion Rocks. Well actually they are slightly off the coast, but they characterise the surrounding area of the adjacent coastline. The area is called Raoche and it is a fantastic destination for sightseers and tourists of all descriptions. Numerous restaurants in the area serve both local and foreign cuisines and cliff-side cafes offer many more options for snacks and drinks.

Walking and jogging are the favorite pastimes among the Lebanese and expat communities on this seaside promenade and if you are starting to feel the effects of treating yourself too well then there are few better places to shed those extra pounds.

The biggest point of interest for newcomers is are the sites where archaeologists have only relatively recently unearthed evidence of the earliest civilisation to occupy the Beirut area. You can find tools and flints at the AUB Archaeological Museum displayed for all to see. It is open monday to friday, tel: 961-1-340549.
