Situated on two main trade routes and about 85 kilometres from Beirut is Lebanon’s superb Roman creation, the Temple of Baalbeck.

The complex of Baalbeck consists of numerous temples and monuments with the level of preservation that is worth seeing.

Of the many sights, the main attractions are the Temple of Jupiter and Temple of Bacchus.

After passing through the four sections of the temple, the jaw-dropping view of the six Corinthian columns at the temple is a reward for visitors.

Besides the Great Temple, there is the Temple of Bacchus with 33 steps leading to the entrance. The temple of Bacchus can be identified with the carvings of Bacchic scenes. The walls are engraved with names of various travellers who visited the temple during the 1860s or earlier.

The Temple of Venus, Ras El Ain, the Great Mosque, Quoubbat Douris, Quarries and Quoubbat al-Amjat are only a few other attractions that are worth visiting.
