The National Archaelogy Museum of Beirut is the place to come in this fantastic city when you feel as if you’ve had enough of the glamour, enough of the grit, and enough of the exuberant fast paced life and want to take it slow for a moment and to explore some very deep and very interesting history. It's the principal museum of archaeology in Lebanon.

The collection was begun after the throes World War I, and the museum was officially opened in 1942.  The museum has collections totalling approximately 100,000 objects, of which most are antiquities and medieval finds from excavations within the country. About 1300 artifacts are exhibited at any given time, ranging in date from prehistoric times to the medieval Mamluk period. The museum is easy to find and is well signposted if you don’t fancy taking a taxi. It is in sum a very professional, and very interesting museum that offers an angle on and appreciacion of Lebanese history and society that is difficult to get elsewhere.
