The second-largest city of Lebanon is Tripoli, the easternmost port of the country.
The population of approximately 500,000 mainly comprises of Sunnis. The city conjoins with El Mina and forms Greater Tripoli. The total area covered by is 10,452 km2 and it has a coastline of 210 km.
There is a permanent fair in Tripoli where trade fairs, important exhibitions and other activities take place regularly. While going shopping, remember olive-oil based soaps and gold are a good buy.
The Mediterranean climate of Tripoli is characterized by hot, dry and long summers, and rainy, cool winters. The coastal areas have hot and humid summers and little rain. The afternoon and evenings are cooled by the west winds. Rain falls mainly in the winters, frosts and snowfall occur occasionally. A variation in the topography causes modification in the basic climate pattern.
