Tourist Guide Macau
Macau is the capital of Macao and has a total surface of about 27,3 square kilometres, with 8,7 square kilometres on a peninsula connected to China and southern islands of Taipa about 6,3 square kilometres and Coloane about 7,6 square kilometres linked by a bridge and causeway.
The landscape consists in a flat coastline and a hilly and rocky inland.
The population of the city counts about 448.500 inhabitants, divided into two
main ethnic groups which are 95,7% Chinese and 1,7% Portuguese. The official
languages of Macau are Chinese and Portuguese, English is spoken in the touristic
areas.
The major religions are Buddhists 17%, Roman Catholics 7% and Christians 2%.
