Turtle Islands
Turtle Islands is a national park that is made up of many sandy and uninhabited islands where one can find green sea turtles and hawksbill. Many birdwatchers come to this place as there is a variety of birds. This park is located in the Sandakan Bay and 8 miles away from the mainland. It is an ideal venue for snorkeling.
Sandakan Memorial Park
The Sandakan Memorial Park is situated on a road that connects Ranau to Sandakan. During the World War II, there was a Japanese POW camp at this location. The Japanese caused huge casualties of British and Australian troops. At present, this serene park has grim photographs, first-hand accounts and corroded remnants of the forced-labor production lines of the camp.
Mount Kinabalu
The tallest mountain in South-East Asia is Mount Kinabalu. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first place in Malaysia to earn this status. It is the peak attraction in Sabah. From the pinnacle of this mountain, it is possible to view Philippines if the weather is clear. There are rest houses along the ascending track and hence the climb can be divided into brief daily parts.
