Kongsi means clan- house. Khoo Kongsi is a clan house of the reputed Khoo family from China. The Khoo family entered George Town in the 18th century. By the mid of the 19th century, the Khoo family members grew significantly.

Hence, they created their own community. These were rich Straits Chinese who constructed the Kongsi in George Town. Special, skilled craftsmen were called out from China to build this house.

This is a huge house that exhibits traces of its wealthy owners.

Visitors can see special Chinese interiors as well as the exterior of this house. Though, it is open to the public, tourists must stroll around the house with due respect for the community.

One can see marvelous carvings and richly ornamented pillars in the complex. The red colored tiled roof and the colorful wooden structure makes this a spectacular building in this area.

Visitors can see typical Chinese aesthetics inside the interiors of the house.
