By Taxi: In Kuala Lumpur, there are two kinds of taxis - metered and non-metered. The metered taxis are usually cheaper that non-metered taxis. For the first 2 kilometers the fare is RM 2 and 10 sen is charged for every 200 meters thereon. An add-on charge of 50% is imposed if traveled between midnight and 6:00 am.
By Car: The easiest option to visit places that are located out of the city centre is to travel by car. There are many car rental agencies having counters at the airport while an international driving permit is required if you are planning to drive in Kuala Lumpur.
By Bus: The bus offers a fairly reliable service with bus operators serving various routes.
By Train: In Kuala Lumpur, there are four rail lines operating - Star LRT, Putra LRT, KTM Komuter and KL Monorail. The trains usually run on time and all train stations are accompanied by bus services. All trains, except Star LRT, pass through the KL Central station.
- KTM Komuter train operates services from the Kuala Lumpur railway station to selected points within the city as well as to places like Seremban, Port Klang, Kajang and Rawang.
- STAR and PUTRA are the two Light Rail Transit lines. They operate daily from 6:00am - 12:00pm. The stored value tickets are available at any LRT station.
