Lake of the Pregnant Maiden is locally known as Tasik Dayang Bunting. It is located at the southern side of the Kuah town. This magnificent fresh water, deep lake lies in the midst of the Pulau Dayang Bunting hills.
According to the local myth, the water of the lake has the power of fertility. Hence, barren women bath in this lake to conceive. The lake is named after the legendry princess named, Dayang Sari.
The legends tell that the princess buried her first child in the lake, which died immediately after its birth. This way the lake got blessed with special powers of fertility. Also the lake resembles a laid down pregnant woman, which may be the reason behind its title.
Besides these legends and myths, the lake is also popular for its heavenly beauty. This is the largest lake on all the islands of Langkawi. The lush green forest and the rocky surroundings make it an irresistible tourist spot. Visitors can enjoy swimming in the water.
