There are several monuments and historical buildings in Melaka, which have witnessed the glorious days of the Dutch rule. All these colonial structures have specific features which distinguish them from other monuments.
One such historical structure is the Stadthuys. In the 17th century, this was the most important building in Melaka, as it was the seat of the Dutch administration. The building grabs the visitors' attention due to its magnificent architecture and striking red color of the exterior.
Currently the building houses a historical museum. The museum holds the artifacts and details of the history of this town. The word Stadthuys means Municipal Town Hall.
It is located at the Town Square of Melaka. Similar to other colonial constructions in this area, this building possesses heavy beams of wood and masonry walls.
The building has the secretary's office, one detached bakery, courtyard, warehouse and a prison. Visitors can make out the lifestyle of the Dutch rulers from this museum and the interior of the building.
