When in Penang you need to be wary of snatch-thieves, especially when wearing expensive jewelry or carrying bags. Don't walk alone in deserted places or accept rides from passenger car or unlicensed taxi.
Avoid carrying valuables in motorbike-baskets also avoid leaving valuables in hotel rooms.
