Tourist Guide Penang:

Penang is a Malaysian state located in the Malay Peninsula. It is also referred to as the ‘Pearl of the Orient’, although it actually means ‘island of a betel nut tree’. With over one million inhabitants, Penang is the eighth most populated state in Malaysia.

It is characterised by an equatorial climate which is consistent throughout the year. The weather stays warm and clear with brief but abundant rainfall from June to September. The humidity is tempered by cool breezes with the surrounding sea influencing the climate to a great extent.

Penang was originally a part of the Malay kingdom before it became a free port in the 1960s. Today, Penang is one of the most competent economies of Malaysia with manufacturing as its major industry sector.

A beautiful island full of surprises. One gets almost everything here - mostly nice and, with all things, there are certainly some ugly sides namely the growing traffic and pollution of the beaches. Overall, a nice liveable place known for its charms ranging from the modern urban areas to the nice quiet corners, from the hills to the seas and from the chic entertainment spots to the beautiful green parks. On top of all these there are the wide variety of foods that whets one's appetite with seemingly endless delight.

Hardcore Penangnite! Even now I am far away from home, there isn't a day where I don't miss Penang... especially the food, and as Penang is a small yet well-equipped island, getting around was a breeze and much less consuming than in big cities like Kuala Lumpur.

The old part of Georgetown is very charming. Living up to its status as UNESCO World Heritage Site, the old town will bring you back to decades/centuries ago, at the time when Penang was the Pearl of the Orient.
