Jubilee Clock Tower is a memorial built on the occasion of the Diamond Jubilee of reign of Queen Victoria.
This tower was a gift from a rich citizen of Penang, Cheah Chen Eok in 1897. The tower is 60 feet tall, which represents completion of 60 years of Queen Victoria's reign.
However, the construction of the tower got accomplished in 1902, when Queen Victoria expired. Cheah Chen Eok spent 35, 000 Straits Dollars for this building.
Today, visitors can see this mighty structure and remember the splendid Victorian era. The clock tower possesses in total four tiers. The base tier is of octagonal shape. The further two tiers possess a rounded off structure with a domed cupola.
The clock is installed on the third tier. Similar to other structures in that era, this tower also possesses a Moorish architectural style. This was rather the most common style of architecture in this period.
The tower is painted in pristine white color which exhibits its artistic looks.
