Myanmar is one of the poorest countries in the world. The local economy is primarily dependent on agriculture, with rice being the main crop. Rice and teak make the two biggest exports, along with gemstones, metal, oilseeds, rubber and beans.

The average daily cost of living for a tourist is about $20; an average meal will cost anywhere between $3 and $10. Also, when here, remember very few places accept credit cards. The best way to get around is on bikes, rickshaws and taxis.
