Before visiting Myanmar, it is advisable to get vaccinations against cholera, hepatitis A, typhoid, malaria, Japanese encephalitis and dengue. A yellow fever certificate is necessary for those travelling from an infected area. Travellers’ diarrhoea is the most common ailment among tourists; you are advised to be careful when eating outside and to drink only bottled or purified water. Also be sure to carry both insect repellents and sun block.

Keep away from the Myanmar–Thailand boarder; ongoing military activity and landmines make it a very dangerous region. The political situation in Myanmar is fairly unsettled, with continuing insurgency in parts of the country.

Myanmar is a conservative society. Avoid wearing shorts and short/sleeveless clothes and clothes with Buddhist imagery. April-October is the typhoon season in Myanmar, it is best to check for travel warnings before travelling to the country during this period.
