North Korea has a planned economy with all the major means of production controlled completely by the government. It is an industrialised nation specialising in the production of machine tools, military products, chemicals and so forth. Important agricultural products are rice, potato, soybeans etc.

The only way to visit the country is through organised tours as tourism is under state control; these tours may charge anything between KPW 10,000 and KPW 30,000 per day.
